The Rhineland State Association

Logo of the Rhineland State AssociationThe Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk (German Youth Hostel Association) was founded back in 1909. Today it consists of 14 state associations – one of them is the DJH Landesverband Rheinland e.V., based in Düsseldorf. As a non-profit, registered association it is an approved community youth organisation. Of the approximately 550 youth hostels in Germany, 34 belong to the Landesverband Rheinland. These are located in the scenically attractive regions of the Eifel, Bergisches Land and Lower Rhine. In addition to modern city hostels in the Rhine metropolises of Cologne and Düsseldorf, and charming hostels in former castle grounds, the Landesverband Rheinland also operates many hostels with special profiles – from experiential education and industrial culture to circus.

The core idea of the youth hostel is that of peaceful encounters between people from all over the world. Carried by this thought and a 100-year tradition, the aims of the Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk and the Landesverband Rheinland are the promotion of youth welfare, education, families with children and single parents, local heritage and history and conservation of the environment and the countryside.
