Football

The most popular team sport in the world

It is the favorite sport of the Germans: Men, kids and quite a few women play football regularly and cheer for their favorite team in the nation’s big stadiums. A lot of children, especially boys, are following the example of Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger, and dreaming of a career as a professional football player. This requires rigorous training – so get off the couch and onto the field!

Football is perfect for letting off some steam, regardless of whether you can score a hattrick or still don’t understand the offside rule. And of course football, like many other ball games, is good for your health. Exercising outdoors strengthens your immune system, trains the muscles, and improves coordination skills. Children who participate in team sports learn to play by the rules, and they learn to treat each other respectfully and fairly.

The Youth Hostels in the Rhineland have long known that their guests love to take a quick break for a football match outside. Therefore, close to most hostels you will find either a football field or a spacious lawn for a sporty match with the whole group or new friends. The hostel Ratingen is perfectly equipped for professional football training: Just a stone's throw away from the building you will find a district sports complex with an artificial turf, tournament-size football field.

Rather watch the professional players on the TV? Many of our hostels have a TV room or a bistro - some even broadcast the latest sporting events on new large flat-screens. Please contact the service team of the respective hostel to get more information about amenities.
